Kiran Kumar Paidipati and Hyndhavi Komaragiri
Diet plays vital role in the daily routine of diabetes patients. Introducing millets in the diet plans increases the potential health and prevents the onset of diabetes. Foxtail millet (Setaria italica) is the high source of important nutrients with rich in natural iron. It is most grown millet species in Asia and second most staple diet in South India. A diet including foxtail millet improves glycaemic control and reduces the use of insulin, cholesterol and fasting glucose in Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) patients. In this study, we considered 7 different menus with regionally available food recipes to meet the necessary nutrient requirements. The prominent optimization models such as Linear Programming Problem (LPP), Priority Goal Programming (PGP) and Weighted Goal Programming (WGP) employed on the diets plans with the objectives of over-achievement and under-achievement of required intake of nutrients and also adding foxtail millet optimized the lowest calories for diabetes patients.
